Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) is a life skills program not a horse program. It is designed to ensure learning and retention of necessary life skills to aid in personal growth. Horses are ideal teachers. Once individuals are taught the basics of working safely with a horse, he or she can become the leader the horse seeks. When the horse feels safe, the individual can easily get the horse to do what is asked of it. These courses offer real, take home value, that all individuals can use in their daily life

EAL is an educational and experiential skills program facilitated within a group format and focuses on ground activities that are objectively driven rather than horseback riding. Including horses in specially designed educational experiences, equine-assisted specialists have significantly multiplied the participant’s rate of success to self-discovery.

EAL is the only nationally recognized program of its kind in Canada. Results show that EAL programs help participants develop relationships, accept responsibility and accountability, overcome barriers when facing change, be encouraged to be creative and innovative, find opportunities to work together, realize the benefits associated with effective communication, recognize the value of mutual trust, respect and personal integrity.
